Principal's Welcome

For over 35 years Salesian education at St John Bosco College has helped form boys and girls from Engadine, Heathcote, Helensburgh and further afield into young men and women who are good Christians and honest citizens.

In keeping with the spirit of Saint John Bosco, the founder of the Salesians, whereby ‘education is a matter of the heart’ that leads young people to ‘know that they are loved’, the St John Bosco College community of today is challenged to be:

  • A home that welcomes
  • A parish that evangelises
  • A school that prepares for life
  • A playground where friends meet and enjoy themselves

That this has been the case is testimony to the durability and efficacy of the philosophy that underpins the endeavours of this school. First and foremost is our concern for the whole life of each student. Here education is much more than the acquisition of knowledge. It depends on spiritual, moral, social, as well as intellectual development. We recognise that each student has innate gifts and unique strengths. By providing personal care and attention we seek to promote these attributes and develop the student's sense of confidence and esteem. We believe that this is best achieved in a strong community setting. Deliberate efforts are made to nurture a family spirit within the school, so that each student is welcomed, affirmed and supported. The medium-size of the school facilitates interaction between students and between students and staff. A well organised, caring environment, a clear set of values and professional, dedicated teachers encourage each student to achieve their potential.

St John Bosco College is an authentic Catholic school. Jesus Christ is central to the life of the College. He is presented to the students as the model of human life and faith that they should emulate and follow. His values are the foundation of the school's policies and operations. His message of love and compassion is the basis of the attitudes and outlook we challenge the boys and girls to develop.

With the support and co-operation of the family, the College seeks to provide an integrated and comprehensive program that, for every student, promotes faith, encourages excellence, engenders responsibility and develops respect and dignity.

It is with this understanding that we invite you into our College community with the knowledge that it is a partnership between parents and the College, where we assist all to become young men and women who are good Christians and honest citizens.
