Pastoral Care

The College motto:   Gaudium et Spes (Joy and Hope) is taken from the opening paragraph of the Second Vatican Council's inspiring document, "The Pastoral Constitution on the Church in the Modern World."

These words - and indeed the whole document - are the magna carta of St. John Bosco College.
Fundamental to effective learning and genuine pastoral care is a College climate which is based upon quality relationships and which supports the growth of the individual within the community. It is the responsibility of all members of the school community to collaborate in the provision of a caring environment within the school. Pastoral care is an expression of the philosophy and vision of the College which prides itself on following the teachings of St. John Bosco.

It is our mission to nurture a dynamic Christian community which seeks to develop the full human potential of each of its members: students, parents, staff, pastors.

Aims of Pastoral Care

To meet each student at his/her point of need.

To nurture an environment where each student‚s full educations, spiritual, physical and social potential might be realised.

To provide structures and opportunities which encourage students to realise their potential.

To encourage positive attitudes and behaviours whilst managing unacceptable behaviour by providing clearly defined consequences and encouragement for students to modify poor behaviour patterns.

To provide an environment which promotes a sense of belonging.

To encourage communication based on mutual trust between students, teachers, parents, ancillary staff and the wider community.

To foster a sense of "hope and joy" in students – "who will be able to leave school with inspiration from the incarnated Christ they have heard talked about and actually met in the persons of the school community."
